New Shoes

An easy and fast 2 mile morning run in the new Asics 2120s. The extra room in the toes felt good, but I'm not sure if I prefer them to the 2110s. The shoe felt a bit stiffer, and the cushioning was, well, less cushy. They were noticeably lighter though, and since my feet felt sore even before stepping into them, I'm not sure it was a fair test.

I noticed today that my footstrike seemed to be somewhere between the heel and the midfoot area, rather than fully on the heel like I thought it was. Would that change over time, or was this was my natural strike all along and I just didn't notice or couldn't tell?

Unless you are over-striding (which I doubt), you're foot will strick pretty much where your body mechanics dictate. Your running form will change and adapt as you get in better shape and at some point you may be able to make some adjustments, but at this point, as long as you feel comfortable running, run with the stride your body dictates.

and cool shoes. I love ASICS.

I'm always amazed at how a new pair of shoes can make you want to get out and run. I've been wearing Brooks Adrenalines forever but stick my feet in a new pair of the same model and it makes a normal weekday run fun and very comfortable. I suppose the fact that I usually run my shoes into the ground until my feet, & knees start to hurt makes the new shoes that much more special. I learned the hard way to purchase shoes based on how they feel and providing the support I need rather than by name brand or looks of the shoe.

Have you had your gait reviewed on a treadmill at a running store by someone who knows thier stuff? If not I'd go give it a try to see what shoe they would put you in.

Happy Running!
